Campus of Science, Innovation, and Technology by Santiago Calatrava

The campus plan and projects of all buildings of the Florida Polytechnic University were developed by Santiago Calatrava.

There is an artificial lake, which serves both to collect rainwater and to irrigate green plantations in the center of the campus. On its bank, the first building of the complex - the Building of Sciences, Innovations, and Technologies was built.

The basis of the plan of construction consists of two concentric rings of double-light corridors. The exterior, through the windows of which one can see the lake, unites ordinary seminar audiences, and the internal one that requires special equipment and laboratory conditions. The second floor is occupied by the teachers' offices.

In the center of the building, there is a Commons hall surrounded by a ring of offices and a professors' hall with a top light: it can serve for lectures, performances, ceremonies and dinner parties. In the rest of the time it is open to students as a public space.

MABIC library by architect Arata Isozaki

MABIC or the "Maranello Biblioteca Cultura" is located in the north of Italy in the town of Maranello. The project was carried out by Arata Isozaki together with the architect Andrea Maffei.

It has a cultural and social center that accommodates a library in its functionality, a reading room, and a multifunctional space, as well as a book ыещкфпу and administration premises. Some rooms are located below ground level.

The building with a flat roof rises only one-floor level above the ground; In addition, it is surrounded on three sides by a high wall, hiding its uncompromisingly "modern" look from the historical environment. The facades of the library themselves consist essentially of glass.

To provide natural light in the interior, the space between the fence and the facades was turned into a shallow pond whose surface reflects the sun's rays into the reading room. The white color of the floor, ceiling, and furniture contributes to such lighting schemes.

Oki Sato: aesthetics of clean lines

Oki Sato is a world famous designer from Japan, head of the Nendo office.

His work is inspired by the traditional Japanese art of origami and the functional mixture of elements inherent in European design.

Thanks to his unique handwriting and huge talent, he has won recognition all over the world. His objects unite true Japanese aesthetics, modern, experimental and the functional minimalism. In addition, all of the objects, in contrast with the deep emotional component, have very concise and simple forms.

The designer experiments not only with functions but also with the forms, colo, and material of the objects. The success is provided, mainly, by the production of many fresh ideas and bold decisions. It is noteworthy that there are practically no planes - only space and lines.

Oscar Niemeyer cultural center

The cultural center in the Spanish city of Aviles was designed by the legendary modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer and was named in his honor.

The futuristic building made of white concrete in the form of a dome is an exhibition space, where you can see the works of the most interesting contemporary artists and photographers. The observation tower with a height of 20 meters can be reached by an external spiral staircase or by an elevator, which offers spectacular views of the industrial capital of Asturias. The central square unites a complex of buildings, it accommodates up to ten thousand people, so it is often used for musical concerts and festivals, theater performances and other mass cultural events.

Oscar Niemeyer Center looks more like a children's playground than the museum complex: each of the five buildings is characterized by the bizarre shape and bright colors of the facades. The cultural center in Aviles is the only colorful building in the long career of the Brazilian architect not by accident - the complex was to become a kind of remedy for depression for the inhabitants of a small industrial town. Aviles for a long time was associated only with smoking pipes of steel mills, which is why the Prince of Asturias Fund decided to give the city a bright exhibition complex.

House of infinity

Villa "House of Infinity" on the Atlantic coast, designed by Alberto Kampa Baez.

The plane of water is contrasted with a terrace of the ideal geometric shape, the roof of the house and, at the same time, its main facade. The main entrance is arranged exactly there - in the form of a downward "trench" stairs cut into its surface. The terrace is protected with three walls from the usual strong winds on the ocean coast and the eyes of the travelers.

By design, the house is very simple: the longitudinal walls divide each floor into three rectangular "tunnels" of the same width. On the upper floor, a single space of the living room flows around the supporting walls, seeping through the wide openings in them; And on the lower - a large hall in the center and three identical bedrooms on the right and left.

Chapel of St. Veil

Chapel of St. Veil is a project of the architectural bureau Kasahara Design Work. It was built in 2014 in Japan on the banks of the Sinano River.

The bizarre name is fully explainable in the manner of the chapel itself. It looks as if all of the insides is covered with a white veil. In it, the organic interlacing of pipes is combined with a light white color of all surfaces, creating the effect of lightness and airiness of the arch.

Providing an almost unearthly atmosphere, the brilliant white surfaces of the chapel's scheme reflect the pure daylight penetrating from above, while the arched aperture behind the altar of the church frames the natural surroundings of the building. Outside, the narrow building is decorated with slate, which allows the chapel to look organically.

The museum of contemporary Art of Fort Worth

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Fort Worth by the Japanese architect Tadao Ando, in which he used simple geometry, inclusion in the environment and a minimum set of materials in the design of the building.

All of the constructions by this talented artist look simultaneously amazing and harmonious, and one of the most important elements of his architecture is natural light.

The museum is located in the cultural center of the city, the building in its updated form fits perfectly into the surrounding landscape: the glass walls let in and out a large amount of sunlight. And the water, on which the five pavilions of the museum stand, reflects bright glare creating a flickering illusion of constant movement.
